Glass House Mountains State School actively values and promotes critical literacy and wide reading. We believe that children need lifelong information skills and strive to foster reading as an enjoyable recreational activity.
The Resource Centre/Library at our school caters to all members of campus - staff, students and parents. All students from Prep to Year 6 are actively encouraged to use the library facilities with increasing independence and confidence. All children must use a cloth library bag for borrowing with the exception of Years 5 & 6.
Students may borrow to the following limits:
Prep - 1 Junior Fiction book - for 1 week
Year 1 - 1 Junior Fiction OR 1 Non Fiction book - for 1 week
Year 2 & Year 3 - 1 Junior Fiction AND 1 Non Fiction book - for 1 week
Years 4, 5 & 6 - 2 Fiction AND 2 Non Fiction AND 1 Junior Fiction - for 1 week
The borrowing period is a maximum time limit, however children may renew loans if necessary and without inconvenience to others. Parents are encouraged to take an interest in their child's borrowing and are invited to join the children in the selection of books.
From time to time the library will be closed due to staff meetings etc. In most cases, this will be advised in the front window. However, the general rule of thumb is - if the door is open and the lights are on, the library is OPEN. Each class is timetabled for borrowing during class time.
The Library is also open for independent borrowing Monday to Thursday at the following times.
Before School - 8.00am - 8.30am
First Break - 10.30am - 11.00am
Second Break - 1.10pm - 1.25pm
After School - 2.30pm - 3.00pm
