Imagine astonauts reading stories from space to school children and families in an exciting new program that combines literature with science!

This year we invite you to join us for an intergalactic experience with the National Simultaneous Storytime 2021 book being read by the astronaut Dr Shannon Walker from the International Space Station.

NSS is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIS).  Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country.  This year NSS takes place on Wednesday 19th May at 11am.

Now in its 21st successful year, it is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to:

  • promote the value of reading and literacy
  • promote the value and fun of books
  • promote an Australian writer and publisher
  • promote storytime activities in libraries and communities around the country
  • and provide opportunities to involve parents, grandparents, the medica and others to participate in and enjoy the occasion
This year the chosen book is, Give me some Space written by Philip Bunting.
You can be a part of this fun and unique event by registering yourself at https://www.alia.org.au/nss. You will be sent a link to the online event so that no matter where you are, you and your child can enjoy the story.  If you are unable to join the reading at 11am on the 19th May, you can still access the digital presentation until Friday 21st May.

While you are at the site, you can also look at the activities, games and colouring in available to download.

We hope you enjoy National Simultaneous Storytime at your house as much as we do here at school.
